Named scholarships are Manu Foundation’s Stepping Stones Scholarships that carry a special name. If, for example, the Chintal family donates Rs 2.5 million or more, a loan scholarship called ‘Ram Kumar Chintal Scholarship’ could be instituted and administered by Manu Foundation. Or Zenith Pharmaceutical Company may ask for ‘Zenith Scholarship’ to be instituted and administered by Manu Foundation. In other words, the Foundation will take on all the administrative burden of identifying deserving students and disbursing the scholarships. Such major donors may, if they wish, also specify the geographical region (eg Kutch, Orissa, the North East) and the level (Higher Secondary School, Undergraduate level, professional courses, postgraduate courses, etc) but not the caste or religion of potential awardees. The quantum of the scholarship will depend on the size of such endowments and the need of the student who wins the scholarship.
